This little guy is sculpted out of used paper, for example junk mail, food packaging and cardboard boxes. It has 4 magnets on the hands to hold messages up in the air. The magnets were rescued from a discarded shower curtain. The stand is a combination of the stick from a broken window blind, a blue tube left over from new construction and a cool little copper stand I found at Goodwill Thrift store. It is currently at KALEID Gallery in San Jose, CA. If you are into a wide variety of art, you will love KALEID Gallery.
“A true conservationist is a man who knows that the world is not given by his fathers, but borrowed from his children.”
-John James Audubon
I chose not to have children but I would still like to leave behind a healthy planet for your children. Birds need your help and you need theirs. Birds offer this world more than just beauty in a cage. They keep us from being overrun with insects. They pollinate our food. They dispose of the dead. Birds are an integral part of life on Earth and they are being destroyed at an alarming rate. Find out how you can help your local birds and become an activist. Your children will thank you.
Now go be sexy.
This piece is made of used cardboard and junk mail. I then painted it with non-toxic glue and acrylic paints. “Recycling Is Sexy” is a painting meant to be a conversation piece to encourage a reconsideration about using disposable goods.
A patron asked to use my plague doctor image printed out to hang on their door. That made me think maybe others would like to use this image as well. Anyone may download and use this image as their masks required sign. If you have any issues please email me and I will send you a png.
Stay safe and avoid maskholes.

Cherri Lakey, of Phantom Galleries, Two Fish Design, KALEID Gallery and Ano Domani, had the fun idea to create a
large painting for the entry wall at KALEID Gallery.
We talked about reflecting the tiny imposition of wearing a mask compared to the Plague Doctors’ uniform.
Thank you Cherri and Brian for turning San Jose into a city of art.
The Plague Doctor, by Sandi Billingsley is currently hanging at KALEID Gallery.

KALIED Gallery has had a Holiday show for about 10 years now. During the annual HARK Show you can find creative and unique gifts. I made the Scented Mandrake roots for this years show. They are made of rope scraps, junk mail and paper food packaging. The paper is then sealed with nontoxic glue and paint. As an absorbent layer for the scented oil, I then add an unsealed layer of paper to the chest and belly. This allows the paper to absorb the essential oil and to give the root a scent.
The Scented Mandrake Collection is part of my effort to continue dialog about the importance of living sustainably.
Love your Mother is a painting trying to remind us that if we want beautiful oceans we have to rethink the concept disposable.
It is made of used and discarded styrofoam and paper, and is painted with non toxic water based paint.
